Ten years ago today, someone I knew and cared about passed away. He was always kind to everyone and didn't have one single enemy. He knew how to brighten up the room.
I was working the day I found out. I had just started my summer job at the movie theater a month prior. Most of the people I worked with were friends I went to High School with... That day, Matilda, his sister, came into the theater in tears and told us all what happened. I remember crying with several friends in the room behind the concession stand.
You are missed Burgess so very much... Until we meet again...
Burgess Merrifield
SWEETWATER - Burgess Merrifield, 16, of Fort Worth died Saturday,
July 19, 1997, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints in Fort Worth. Graveside service will be at 3
p.m. in Albany Cemetery in Albany. Arrangements are by McCoy
Funeral Home.
He was born March 26, 1981, in Little Rock, Ark. He was a student
at Crowley High School and was a member of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Boy Scouts.
Survivors include his parents, John and Skylar Merrifield, a
sister, Matilda Merrifield, and two brothers, Will Merrifield and
John Merrifield Jr., all of Fort Worth; his maternal grandmother,
Matilda Nail Peeler of Fort Worth; and his paternal grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Arthur of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
