Two thousand one, nine eleven
Three thousand plus arrive in heaven
As they pass through the pearly white gates
Thousands more appear in wait
A bearded man with a pipe and a hat
Steps forward saying, "Lets sit, lets chat"
They settle down in floating clouds
A man named Martin shouts out proud
"I have a dream!" and once he did
The Newcomer said, "Your dream for a fact still lives."
Groups of soldiers in blue and gray
Others in khaki, and green they did say
"We're from Bull Run, Yorktown, the Maine"
The Newcomer said, "You never once died in vain."
From one man who shouts out proud
on sticks.
"The only thing we have to fear.
The Newcomer said, "We know the rest,
trust us sir, we've passed that test."
"Courage doesn't hide in caves
You can not bury freedom, down deep in a grave,"
A silence fell within the cloudless mist
Somehow the Newcomer knew that this
Meant time had come for him to say
What filled the hearts of the five thousand plus
that day
"Back on Earth, we wrote reports,
Parents watched their kids play in sports
We sang our songs and our parents went to work
We went to church and teachers taught so we could learn
We smiled, we laughed, we cried, we fought
Unlike you, great we're not"
The tall bearded man with the pipe and the hat
Stood and said, "Don't talk like that!
Look at your country, look and see
You died for your countrys freedom, just like me!"
Then, before them all appeared a scene
Streets full of rubble and twisted beams
Death, destruction, smoke and dust
And people working just because they must
Hauling ash, lifting stones,
Knee deep in hell, but not alone
"Look white man, black man, brown man,
all helping every one!"
So said Martin, as he watched the scene
"Even from everyday nightmare, a dream can be born."
The man on sticks studied everything closely
Then shared what he watched and
on what he saw mostly
"I see pain, I see tears,
I see sorrow -- but I do not see fear."
"You left behind your husbands and
your wives, your daughters and sons
and so many lives."
are suffering now because of this wrong
But look very closely. Really your not gone at all.
All of those people, even those who have
never met you, all of them.
All of their lives, they'll never forget you
Don't you see what has happened?
Don't you see what you've done?
You've brought them closer, you've brought them
together, together as one."
With that the tall man with the pipe
and the hat said,
"Take my hand," and from there he led
three thousand plus heroes, Newcomers to heaven
On this day, two thousand one, nine eleven
