Sharkfin's blog: "Chaos"

Good Morning. I trust your weekend was a good one, hopefully anyways. Back to work Monday, yuck…The weekend started out like a frenzy for me with Mandy’s Softball team arriving for dinner at 5:45-6:00 and at 5:15 I figured I would start the grill and get the hamburgers ¾ of the way done incase there were cheese burger lovers in the group. Well, 5:15 came along and Bonnie asked whether or not I picked up any NON-meat items to cook? “I said ah..no..! was I supposed to?” Apparently one child on the team is a vegetarian and does not eat meat. I guess that is the definition of an vegetarian, but anyway so I mentioned to her that someone needs to get the burgers on and WATCH them…so they don’t burn…oh you know where this story is going. I leave and rush up to what is called Vitale’s Market a great place for sub sandwiches but again Melissa the one who does not eat meat would not do a sub although I guess I could have gotten her a meatless sub or vege-sub…anyway Pasta Salad and Potato salad were in order. I figured there was plenty of chips and cheese’s to delight her taste buds along with my two found goodies…well, just as I reached the peak of the hill near our house I seen the smoke…Oh ten thousand and one things rush through ones head at that point. MY HOUSE is on FIRE!!! But, no it wasn’t, as I turned in the driveway I noticed the smoke bellowing over the house and figured, oh no! The Burgers are toast! Well I quickly as Possible rush around back through plants and dodge staircases careen up the deck stair case to the grill which Bonnie is no where in sight watching…I flip open the lid to find the Hamburgers all in a shallow broiler pan swimming in grease and the best way I can explain this fire that is on the other side of the grill is rivaling the Olympic Flame…Well mom did not raise no dummy and I know grease fires do not like water…well at least on the stove or in a pan, this one was in the bottom of the grill and raging. It could have been viewed as a bon-fire but we will refer to it as, Bonnie’s little mistake fire…for now. So the grill is on fire I am thinking hmmm sand right now would surely broach any chance for these burgers tasting the least bit good and then I would have to shovel the grill afterwards…quick thinking denounced that solution. So I did the next best thing, I lifted Liz’s water bowl and doused it out and save the deck, house, and yes the all important Burgers. Upon further notice I checked the burgers and they were actually ok…I freed them from their greasy swim in the grease reservoir and placed the hotter then Billy blue blazes pan on the side deck rail and went in looking for Carrie, I mean Bonnie to see why Fire Starter was not at her post and trying to finish off the charcoal burgers… She was cutting tomatoes up and said “Oh, they were fine, I just took them off the grill and placed them in the broiler pan..” Bonnie does not do a bunch of the cooking at our house, well at least on the grill. She found out the kids stay home for dinner if I do the grilling more.. So I said, “ What happened? I mean you did not try to cook all 16 burgers at once did you?” Knowing in my heart she did exactly that. She said “yeah, I figured I have done 4 before with no problem…” Well to make a long story short the kids and coached raved over the burgers how good they were. Apparently thinking we would make them eat two if they did not say how good they were. They played a few games of beanbag and hill-billy golf and chased frogs around in the holding pounds and they all were gone before I knew it. Not much food was left after that parade of kids ate. So all in all the night was good. The house is still in one piece and the deck fire free. Not fire departments were needed in this episode. The next day Mandy hit well the comets did not win the softball tournament but they played well and once again thanked us along with their parents also saying how much for the girls had at our house. The following day was Mother’s Day and I made Bonnie a garden entrance that she always wanted complete with arbor, fence and walkway…well the walk way will be completed today… I bit off more then I could chew as always this past weekend. So for now I will bid you a wonderful day. May the sun shine brite on you and may your day be fantastic too. A huge hug and a pat Marty
