Do you ever wonder? I mean I am sure you do but, what I am asking is this. Things that we take for granted on a daily basis…do you wonder where they came from and how they came. Some history books will state that Pierre and Ernest Michaux, the French father and son team of carriage-makers, invented the first bicycle during the 1860s. Historians now disagree and there is evidence that the bicycle is older than that. However, historians do agree that Ernest Michaux did invent the modern bicycle pedal and cranks in 1861. Baron Karl Drais von Sauerbronn - Early Bicycles The German Baron Karl Drais von Sauerbronn invented the "Laufmaschine" or "Running Machine", a type of pre-bicycle. The steerable Laufmaschine was made entirely of wood and had no pedals; a rider would push his/her feet against the ground to make the machine go forward. Sauerbronn's bicycle was first exhibited in Paris on April 6, 1818. The celerifere was another similar early bicycle precursor invented in 1790 by Frenchmen, Comte Mede de Sivrac, however, it had no steering. Oh, by the way GOOD MORNING…See, if asked of 100 school age children where their Bicycle originated they would say I am sure Their Parents. Leave it to us Americans to ad-lib…American, Sylvester Howard Roper (1823-1896) invented a two-cylinder, steam-engine motorcycle (powered by coal) in 1867. This can be considered the first motorcycle, if you allow your description of a motorcycle to include a steam engine. Howard Roper also invented a steam engine car. History lesson over but, and I must express a huge but, not mine but a but just the same. All of the above have been taken for granted by us. Because we have always known it was here. I mean if you look at the invention wheel of progress does it not hold no really extreme items? Well other then, computers, cell phones, Ipods and the list goes on. Ok now I am going to throw in cause for debate. Here is where the rubber meets the road so to speak…Alrighty then…if we have all these inventors and their marvelous inventions to play with, work with and use in our everyday life… then pray tell why hasn’t anyone invented a non-fossil fueled way of transportation? Hmmm? Oh yeah there has been many avenues presented, Electric cars, Battery cars, cars that run on sea-water…but, there is that but again I must have butt on my mind…but, why do these inventions sort of stop or get put on the back burner? Conspirators will claim they were silenced and big business is to blame…Think about it…Where would Oil, Gas and Electricity magnates be if the planet was run on seas water? In the stink hole is where. But, that will never happen. Because…and this is the big but again. Who owns the Ocean? So next time you hop in your classy ride and pay over $3.00 a gallon for gas and hear the Gas proponents give you items that cost most a gallon then you are paying for gas. Like Beer, Orange Juice, Olive Oil…the list goes on… Just say back to them, Well I do not have to fill my tank with Orange Juice or Milk or Beer to the tune of 20 gallons every 4 days so stick you Orange juice prices back in the Florida groves… I was being nice we all know where they can be stuck…Big Business not the gas station attendants are to blame. So next time you fill up, think I could have had a V-8… Oh dang I do!!!! That’s why I get such crappy Mileage…Have a wonderful yet marvelous day.
