He puts on his uniform
and laces up his boots,
another young soldier prepares
to join his troops.
He doesn't do it for the glory,
and it's certainly not for the pay,
he fights for freedom, come what may.
There's no draft,
they're all volunteers,
they know the dangers,
still they show no fear.
Though there will be a lot to lose,
there will be a lot to gain,
he sees others misfortune,
and he feels their pain.
Wherever theres a conflict,
wherever theres a need,
an American soldier serves with pride,
the last of a dying breed.
