St. Johns produced the only other goal in regulation at 12:37 of the first period. Trotter was positioned to the left of the goal when he redirected a Zach Redmond pass from the centre point. St. Johns did not manage a shot in the second period when it killed off three overlapping penalties to hold its one-goal lead. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton got off six shots while remaining on the power play for 5:25, including stretches of 17 and 18 seconds of 5-on-3 advantages. "What that did was allow us to gain some momentum and spend some time in the offensive zone," Wilkes-Barre/Scranton coach John Hynes said. " ... It set us up for what happened later in the game."
