A Testimony
By
Mary Heuss Nelson

John 3:17
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world,
but to save the world through Him.

I find in talking to the unsaved that they usually have one of two ideas about God.
They either think that He is so kind and grandfather-like that He would never send anyone to hell,
or they believe that He is a harsh and cruel dictator just waiting to strike them with lightening, so to speak,
whenever they mess up!

I accepted Christ at the age of 9,
but when I was a young teen I remember having doubts about my salvation.
I was plagued with feelings that God didn't love me anymore.
I went to my dad finally and he showed me this verse and a couple of others that speak of God's great love for us.
This verse in John however, was the one that spoke to me.
God didn't send Jesus to condemn me, but to love and forgive me!
Oh, I cannot tell you how my life changed after I had assurance of the love and grace that as a child of 9 I had accepted so freely.
Satan had stolen my peace for a time,
but never since have I ever doubted that I am covered by the blood of Christ
and that God will never leave me or forsake me (Hebrews 13:5).

God did not send Jesus into this world to condemn us,
He certainly could have sent Him here for that purpose, as we totally deserved His condemnation,
but He decided to extend mercy and grace to mankind!
All that is required of us is to accept the free gift that He offers of salvation through His precious blood
for the forgiveness of our sins (Romans 3:25).
Jesus came to this earth to suffer, bleed, and die a cruel death
so that anyone who will place their faith in Him can have eternal life in heaven.
Christ's death is sufficient to cover the sins of anyone ever born in the past, present, and future.

God absolutely does NOT desire for ANYONE to go to hell.
2 Peter 3:9 says,
"The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness.
He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."
But, He has and will put people there if they reject Jesus and His finished atoning work on the cross to save them.
John 14:6 clearly states that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life..
..no one comes to the Father except through Him.
There are NOT many ways to God,
there is ONE way to God and to an eternity spent in heaven, (John 3:16)
that way is through faith in Jesus Christ!

Have you accepted His free gift of salvation?
He loves you and wants you to be in heaven with Him when you leave this earth one day,
but the choice is yours,
if you reject His Son He will have no choice but to send you to hell.
Please trust in Christ today
and enjoy this life here and in eternity to come!

Thank You Father God for loving me
and for sending Jesus,
Your one and only Son to die for me.
I love You so Abba Father
and give You all the praise, honor, and glory
that You so richly deserve this day, Amen!

My HOPE in Jesus blood cleansing me of all my sin, takes away a certain fear in death & "that it all ends"

Now that I know, the way, the Truth & the Life about Jesus & the realities of Heaven & Hell,

My Faith in the Lord to save me from Hell is the only Hope you can have from that too...

Pray this Prayer to Heaven, if you don't have that "HOPE"

"nothing" & I Mean NOTHING, is more important, than being FORGIVEN !

John 1 New King James Version (NKJV)

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 He was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. Free Image Hosting at FunkyIMG.com

[John’s Witness: The True Light]

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.
11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:
13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

[The Word Becomes Flesh]

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying,
“This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ ”
16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.
17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

[A Voice in the Wilderness]

19 Now this is the testimony of John,
when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”
20 He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.”
21 And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.”
22 Then they said to him, “Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”
23 He said: “I am ‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Make straight the way of the Lord,” ’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”
24 Now those who were sent were from the Pharisees.
25 And they asked him, saying, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
26 John answered them, saying, “I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know.
27 It is He who, coming after me, [i]is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose.”
28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing. The Lamb of God
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
30 This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’
31 I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.”
32 And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.
33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”

[The First Disciples]

35 Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples.
36 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!”
37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
38 Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, “What do you seek?” They said to Him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), “where are You staying?”
39 He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour).
40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ).
42 And he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, “You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas” (which is translated, A Stone).

[Philip and Nathanael]

43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.”
44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
46 And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”
48 Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
50 Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”
51 And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open,
and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.” *

…v29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these.
30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field,(IE; flowers/etc.) which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace,
will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’…

Matthew Henry Commentary
6:25-34 There is scarcely any sin against which our Lord Jesus more warns his disciples,
than disquieting, distracting, distrustful cares about the things of this life.
This often ensnares the poor as much as the love of wealth does the rich.
But there is a carefulness about temporal things which is a duty,
though we must not carry these lawful cares too far.
Take no thought for your life. Not about the length of it;
but refer it to God to lengthen or shorten it as he pleases;
our times are in his hand, and they are in a good hand.
Not about the comforts of this life; but leave it to God to make it bitter or sweet as he pleases.
Food and raiment God has promised, therefore we may expect them.
Take no thought for the morrow, for the time to come.
Be not anxious for the future, how you shall live next year, or when you are old, or what you shall leave behind you.
As we must not boast of tomorrow, so we must not care for to-morrow, or the events of it.
God has given us life, and has given us the body.
And what can he not do for us, who did that?
If we take care about our souls and for eternity, which are more than the body and its life,
we may leave it to God to provide for us food and raiment, which are less.
Improve this as an encouragement to trust in God.
We must reconcile ourselves to our worldly estate, as we do to our stature.
We cannot alter the disposals of Providence,
therefore we must submit and resign ourselves to them.
Thoughtfulness for our souls is the best cure of thoughtfulness for the world.
Seek first the kingdom of God, and make religion your business: say not that this is the way to starve; no,
it is the way to be well provided for, even in this world.
The conclusion of the whole matter is,
that it is the will and command of the Lord Jesus,
that by daily prayers we may get strength to bear us up under our daily troubles,
and to arm us against the temptations that attend them,
and then let none of these things move us.
Happy are those who take the Lord for their God,
and make full proof of it by trusting themselves wholly to his wise disposal.
Let thy Spirit convince us of sin in the want of this disposition,
and take away the worldliness of our hearts."

Commentary

Matthew Henry Commentary
James 3:13-18
These verses show the difference between men's pretending to be wise, and their being really so.
He who thinks well, or he who talks well, is not wise in the sense of the Scripture, if he does not live and act well.
True wisdom may be know by the meekness of the spirit and temper.
Those who live in malice, envy, and contention, live in confusion; and are liable to be provoked and hurried to any evil work.
Such wisdom comes not down from above,
but springs up from earthly principles,
acts on earthly motives, and is intent on serving earthly purposes.
Those who are lifted up with such wisdom, described by the apostle James, is near to the Christian love,
described by the apostle Paul; and both are so described that every man may fully prove the reality of his attainments in them.
It has no disguise or deceit.
It cannot fall in with those managements the world counts wise, which are crafty and guileful;
but it is sincere, and open, and steady, and uniform, and consistent with itself.
May the purity, peace, gentleness, teachableness, and mercy shown in all our actions, and the fruits of righteousness abounding in our lives,
prove that God has bestowed upon us this excellent gift.

James 3: 13-18
(for entirety of verses commentary refers)
The Wisdom from Above
v13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good conduct, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
14But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast in it or deny the truth.
15Such wisdom does not come from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.…
…16For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every evil practice.
17But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere.
18Peacemakers who sow in peace reap the fruit of righteousness.…
