On April 11th, the Salt Lake City Weekly released a story entitled "Sex Machine: Ex-Utahn Belladonna, faces porn stardom with relish and some reluctance. I spent five months talking on and off with Stephen Dark, the editor, about my life and my work. I also got him in touch with John Stagliano, Nina Hartley, Claire Adams, Aiden Kelly as well as my mother. I was really excited to read this story and felt that people would be able to really learn from me and my experiences. I'd chosen to be nothing but honest in my interviews because I don't see why I should cater to anyone else's ideas of what I should say about my job or life. This is my life and I make my own decisions.
When I was sent the link to the online version of the story I was very anxious to see how it turned out. I got about half way through it and felt that I couldn't comprehend some of the words I was reading. Listen, I know I don't have a high school education but come on, will everyone reading this understand all of the words? I continued to read it and was a little disappointed at how my husband, Aiden, was portrayed and how some of my words were change to fit the writers opinion. I was also shocked at how short of a story it was considering the time I put into it. I guess what I really want is for people to hear my story from my own mouth because that is the best way for anyone to understand me. I opened up to someone once again and was disappointed in their single sided mind. Not everyone understands porn, nor do they want to.
What I think is funny is people who don't understand porn think that we're all helpless victims, but we have a voice and we can say no at anytime. I feel in some ways the media is the one who victimizes people. Twisting our words around so that you'll all feel sorry for us or only sharing the parts that work best for the story or ratings. There are some performers out there that will never admit the truth of how they feel or show you the part that you never see. I am not one of them. You will never get anything but the truth from me. And with that being said, there's always two sides to every story, and here is, more or less, Stephen Dark's side...
