Cherry-picked

Here's a quote from the Terms of Service, paragraph 5, about our policy on dealing with posts with racist overtones:
... fubar.com reserves the right to investigate and take appropriate legal action in its sole discretion against anyone who violates this provision, including without limitation, removing the offending communication from the Service and terminating the membership of such violators. Prohibited Content includes Content that: i. is patently offensive and promotes racism, bigotry, hatred or physical harm of any kind against any group or individual...
It shouldn't even have to be said on a website where the membership is from very diverse backgrounds. That said... At this time, we have 32 bouncers (33 if you count "fubar support"). What is it about the thought process behind some members that makes them believe it's perfectly okay to report all racism issues to me, directly? Let's examine a shoutbox conversation witih one such socio-butterfly.
Her: read this {link to mumm with the N-word in it} Me: Just out of curiosity... Did you send this to me because I was the only black bouncer? (I'm pointing this mumm at Scrapper anyway, but it seems like I get all the "race card" issues, even when I'm not here...). Her: you bet I did!!! Me: Next time, don't do that. Select a bouncer based on availability, not race... or you're as racist as that guy is. Her: hardly as racist! give ur head a shake! a racist demeans a race, not a person Me: You don't get it. By your own admission, you sent this mumm to me because I am the only black bouncer. Her: so how does that demean ur race? Me: There are 32 bouncers here. There is a support lounge. ALL of us are equipped to handle this kind of problem. Her: it anything, i'm making you aware Her: if you don't like ur job, resign Me: What you did was just as bad as what he did. "I'm going to select THIS bouncer BECAUSE he's black." Me: This doesn't make right what the person you reported did (and it was the correct move), but don't make your motives suspect, too. Otherwise, you come off sounding just as ignorant. Her: selecting cuz ur black, is racist? good grief! Me: Read what I said again, please. Her: if i hit on you cuz ur black, is that racist? Me: Now you're trying to bait me into an argument by splitting hairs. I'm not going to stoop to that. Her: lol Her: we agree to disagree Me: Or do generic problems go to generic bouncers and black problems go to black bouncers? Me: .... but yes... we agree to disagree on this point. I'll still think what you did was somewhat shady, even though it is perfectly legal. Her: if u knew me u'd know i'm the furthest thing from being racist..but i'm content knowing that. Me: I never actually called you racist. The thing I had issue with was that, of all the other avenues you had to report this, you (blatantly) chose to point this at someone you assumed would react more strongly at this than any other bouncer here. Her: trust me, next time i'll avoid u then Me: And, by your own admission, the sole motive behind your choice was my skin color. Me: Once again, you've missed the point... Me: ... but, fair enough, please select another bouncer in the future. Good-bye.
Now, to be fair, she did the right thing by pointing this mumm out to a bouncer. Even though the mumm was marked NSFW, it violated the TOS (since it had a derogatory word attacking a race) and was deleted, along with the poster. Let's talk about where she went wrong. She came off just as ignorant as the person she reported. Why? Because she assumed that my race was the best determining factor in selecting what avenue to use to report the issue. Then, she expected me not to be insulted by that (in fact, I should have been happy she made me aware that there are racism issues on Fubar!). I'm surprised she didn't say, "Some of my best friends are black!" or the more socially-awkward, "Black people make the best cotton-pickin' bouncers on Fubar!" Remember, we're all here to help. All 32 of us, plus all of the trainees. We handle all support issues, not just specific ones. Don't cherry-pick (and I'll spare you by leaving out the obvious joke about black cherries).
