Dead Animals
Life drives recklessly at 90
Over the asphalt of our time,
And it never has it's headlights on
So it can hit you blind.
Too busy watching road signs
To see you're even there.
We're just speed bumps on the pavement.
We're dead animals.
Dead Animals!
All us possums, squirrels and bunnies
That try to cross the street
Would do well to remember
That the heavens have lead feet.
The fates don't got thier brakes on,
And in a blink they'll mow you down.
We're so many bugs on the windshield.
We're dead animals.
Dead Animals!
We're closer to the pot holes.
We're closer to the cracks.
Closer to the gutters and the trash.
It's a thin line between rodent and roadkill,
And when it comes to the rat race
Life seldom looks back
At dead animals...
Dead Animals...
And all the other cars that speed along
Don't stop to hear bells toll,
Or listen to the soul of what they hit.
Just another stain on God's park avenue.
Dead animals like you and me ain't shit.
