Hopelessly Forgotten
By: April Terry
Another day fades into night.
Once again she’s all alone.
She watches as the shadows,
Swallow her alive.
She remembers of a time,
When the darkness was light.
A time when she didn’t feel all alone.
She tries to smile,
At the memories,
But instead all she does is weep.
She looks deep within,
For the soul that once thrived.
In hope that it may be alive.
Even if just a little.
After some time,
She comes across it.
Carefully taking it into her hands.
She finds it as dead as she feels.
She holds it close,
Hoping somewhere deep within,
There shines a little light.
She decides its best to move on,
Maybe she can find her heart.
Just maybe,
It’s still alive.
Going even deeper within,
She slowly wonders though it all.
The land of forgotten memories.
Good and bad.
And in the middle of them all,
Laying on the ground,
Is a scared bloody matter.
At first she bypasses it,
Then she hears a faint thump.
Coming back to it,
She realizes that it’s her heart.
And it’s still alive.
She bends down,
Carefully picking it up.
Holding it close,
To her body and soul.
She prays,
That it’s not too late.
She tells herself,
That it’s going to be just fine.
As the tears began to flow,
Slowly down her cheeks.
