You know, since I cover an area roughly bordered by Louisiana (I do make runs into Louisiana for certain customers at times) down to Corpus I drive a LOT. I'm talking like 30-40k miles a year.
The one place I dread to go is where I live :-)
Think of it as inside Houston's outer loop (Beltway 8, and the worst places (besides the obvious, downtown) are:
*610 and 45 interchange, particularly from the west, headed east
*45 South approaching Clearlake City Blvd, from either direction
*Outer Loop (Beltway 8) on the west side, particularly around 290W
There are three thing that can ease these congestion problems RIGHT NOW!
1. Outlaw cell phone usage, and enforce it
2. Ship the illegals back home, with their uninsured cars/trucks/minivans, etc.
3. Outlaw minivans altogether or restrict their use to times outside rush hour. More on this later.
One of the oddest observations I can make was illustrated yesterday. I was south of the beltway, headed south on 45, and traffic was stacked up all the w3ay north of the beltway.
Why? There was an accident.. ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE. Geezus people, just drive, you seen this crap before!
Often I find traffic stacked up because some idiot is driving 5 mph below the speed limit in the fast lane. Now Houston is reknown for being a civilian version of the Daytona 500, and if everyone was paying attention and participating this would work with no safety problems at all. I'm not condoning it, this is simply an observation.
Invariably it is some chick in a minivan yacking on her cell phone, oblivious to anyone else in the world even existing. The answer is simple officer, pull her azz over and if nothing else give her a lecture about endangering everyone else on the road.
How about that idiot that enters the highway, and accellerates AFTER he causes a traffic jam in the right lane cause he's going so slow, then runs wide open to get in front of everyone else, making wildly unsafe lane changes like a NASCAR driver, then drives slow. WTF is up with that tactic?
