This was a MUMM posted, and I thought it would be a good idea to share my answer with everyone..
the 2008 poll made me think of this. why do republicans consider themselves the Christian party? don't they realize that Jesus was basically a socialist? i mean, look at his teachings. "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God", "Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God", Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth", "go, sell what you have, and give to the poor"... i could go on, but you get the idea. so what do you think? was Christ more of a liberal or a conservative?
This was my answer..
Okay first of all you can’t answer this yes or no because you asked on a faulty premise. Republicans never said they consider themselves Christians... Liberalists say that about the Republican Party. %90 of the Holy Bible is talking about Spiritual Wealth, not money. People who have ALOT of $ tend to worship $ over God and think better of themselves... God is simply restating the 1st commandment; you shall have no other gods before me. "Sell to the rich give to the poor", just makes that point, not to worship money over God. $ & the belief in Jesus, the Son in the Triune God, don't cancel themselves out, there are ALOT of rich people in the Bible. Left Wing minders don’t believe in war.. Well God says, "I did not come to make peace, I came for enmity between father & son, Mother & daughter..." Jesus would have been a conservative, he didn’t believe in government social programs, he didn’t believe a community raises a child, YOU raise your child. He believed in personal responsibility. Just like conservatives pitch. He wasn’t against or for any earthy kingdom, or government... but the kingdom in heaven.
