I finally bought a new PC. I've been looking for a little over a year, but have been holding off until Vista was ready for prime time (if it ever is) and, of course, until I could save up a bit more money. However, yesterday Dell sent me an email with the proverbial (and literal) offer that I couldn't refuse ... a Vostros with roughly the same specs (and one better) as the XPS that I've been speccing for over a year for less than half the price. The XPS was going to cost me about $2300 before tax and shipping whereas the Vostros cost me just under $900 with tax and free shipping. It should be here by Monday at the latest so, suffice it to say, I'm very happy.
Here are the exact specs for those geeky enough to care:
Intel Core2 Duo CPU E6550 (2.33GHz, 1333FSB 4MB L2)
2GB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz, Dual Channel DT
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT 2DVI
250GB Serial ATA Hard Drive 7200RPM, 8MB Cache
16X DVDRW Drive
IEEE 1394a Adapter
Dell 19-in-1 Media Card Reader
Genuine Windows XP Home (the best part)
