Prayers
I'm two years old again,
and scared of the dark:
It's eternity vast and full,
and increadably stark.
I pull the blankets up over my head,
but the rational adult kicks in
and I uncover my face instead:
'They can see me even if I can't see them,
and it's no good to be caught unaware'.
Then the synical snaps:
'Nor to waste my breath
'cause I'd choke on a prayer'
