My employer has sent out an early retirement option. Current work is HIGHLY stressful,un-fulfilling, full of back-stabbing, lying A**HOLES, no chance of getting better. They are throwing a lot of curve balls such as: universally down graded performance, threats of termination if performance isn't "up to their standards" (they are firing people left and right for this), guilt (i.e., " come on, give the young folks a career" - yes, age discrimination in place but unprovable/un-winnable), "this retirement option may not EVER come up again", "if you don't take it and we terminate you, you'll get a very small severance package and that's ALL", etc. Current salary is good. Retirement package is about 1/4 of current bring home (after taxes) but ABSOLUTELY 100% GUARANTEED for life. Still have to pay "health" insurance (about 1/5 of retirement pay). MAY be eligible for medical social security benefits but that takes years to process, lots of doctors, in order to get benefits. Spouse works, good pay, but can't cover all bills, and job future is "iffy". Local jobs are practically non-existent. Moving is out of the question - roots-in-deep, house is paid off, kids are school-aged (12+ years to go).
