Running My dogs teach As I watch them run She leads, yet Feels constrained by the leash. He pees to mark His space standing up She covers and doesn’t Understand why she must squat. Each stride joyful Wind pressing their ears Back and smiles imagined Nothing else matters Excitement results In his humping Not knowing He can only shoot blanks Her humping in Frustration More controlling Than satisfying Yet each of my dogs Does what is natural Only motivation Is for time spent with me I learn That territory And controlling only Matters during the run When the run is done We rest Cuddled on the couch Two dogs warm on my chest Poet
