Elf's blog: "Slacking at work"

created on 09/22/2006  |  http://fubar.com/slacking-at-work/b5350

Saturday night's game...

....was actually really fun. I haven't played D&D in years, much less with a group that uses no books. (most people I gamed with loved the books. I did too but I liked to throw things out the window) So we started off playing our characters as children. Probably we were one strange looking group. An orc, two elves, a human, two kitsune and a dwarf. And it was pretty neat. I liked the learning of the skills rather than just creating a character that already had them. (We won't mention the fact that I'm growing up to be a cleric and I botched creating a cure poison salve.....that thing killed rats that just looked at it.) I'm also really looking forward to next week to continue this and see what happens at the next town. To see if it's been destroyed like ours was or if the bandits are hanging out there. I'm also wondering if the crystal that I got from the wounded human and his orc buddy is going to come in handy on this trip. But there was our adventure in a nutshell. Here's where I have to pose a question to you guys. Say you started dating someone and they were going to bring you back to their house for part of the night. Now they warn you that their brother (whom they live with) has some friends over and they are all gaming. Add to this that you are completly unfamiliar with role-playing games, D&D and the like. So your S.O. tries to explain that it's like fantasy role-playing but all this conjures up in your mind is some sort of weird sexual thing. So you get to your S.O.'s house and start to walk in when they look around the corner and groan and start laughing. You ask what's up and they try to explain about the role-playing thing again. At this point you come around the corner and take a look inside the living room. The first sight that greets your eyes in a gentleman in a leather jacket with his pants around his ankles leaning in the doorway who turns to smile at you. Further in the room are two three girls with no shirts on and three more guys with no pants on. The gentleman in the doorway shakes your hands and introduces himself while the other peopel in the room look up from their papers and smile and say hello. What do you think? I think the poor girl thought we were all off our rockers for a moment. We had all of 30 seconds warning to strip off various clothes and look casual. But I think it worked to utterly confuse her. That was the other funny part of the evening and probably takes the cake as the weirdest thing that I've ever participated in during a night of gaming.
