Standing in the light armor reflecting you seem to be a knight
Come to slay the dragon in the fight
No sword in hand only your wits and a tough command
Men and women follow you decisions with precision and care
Lives will be lost in the battle that follows
But each and every one knew the choice
And made the decision to be a solider
Flags wave and people cry
Reflection of what was and what will be shine in your eyes
Children play, people wed and time goes bye
All because of who you are
People complain and moan about the weather
Never realizing how much they owe to the solider
In our past, present and future time
Mourning and dark colors splay across the grass
Another solider has come home to rest
Not in loving arms or to see another’s smile
Bagpipes play a soulful song in the background
Whispers, tears and sad smiles grace the day
They were a solider until the end
