Unicorn Wedding

Unicorn Wedding The day of Jola’s wedding was getting closer, and she was getting more and more excited and more and more nervous, but Uni, on the other hand, acted as if nothing different was happening. This added a further level of frustration to her day, and she found herself constantly pushing him to keep him on the move, she felt guilty for doing this to him, but no matter what she did or said he responded with love. That afternoon Uni, her father and the best man had gone to the mall to be fitted for their suits, powder blue, and Jola had wanted to go with them, but her father had said they would be all right on their own, they knew what colour to buy, so what could go wrong? Besides she had to watch Kasandra, who had found that she could easily jump the six foot fence Jola’s father had worked all weekend to build. With her mother already in the mall ordering the flowers, white carnations, Jola felt alone, until Kasandra called her to come and prance with her, and after a few seconds both were laughing and giggling. As soon as her mother returned Jola left Kasandra in her care and raced to the nearby mall, where she picked up the CD she had decided would be perfect for the day, Brandy – Because I love him, and then picked up some white lingerie, that wouldn’t show through her dress on the day and some white gym shoes, because no one would see them under her wedding dress and they were more comfortable. Holding her treasures tightly she ran home. Once inside she ran to her room and closed the door behind her, and dressed in her wedding clothes, the single strap on her left shoulder, as she had expected the dress easily covered the gym shoes, she slipped a flower in her hair and admired herself in the mirror, even to her own eyes she was beautiful, suddenly she was crying, the tears rolling down her beautiful dark skin. Outside the men had arrived home, the best man waved goodbye and headed straight home, Uni stopped in the living room with Jola’s mother and Kasandra, and her father headed to his own room, where on the way he heard Jola crying, knocked and entered her room, where he found her in tears. “What’s wrong baby?” he asked, holding her gently by her shoulders, a worried look on his face. “What if Uni doesn’t think I’m beautiful Daddy?” she asked, lying her head on his shoulder. “Baby, You know he loves you more than anything, and always will” Her father answered quietly. “But he’s a unicorn, he doesn’t see my human side, my human beauty, and I so much want to look beautiful for him as I walk down the aisle,” she said, still pushing her face into his shoulder. Outside in the living room Uni had heard every word, even in human form his hearing was exceptionally sharp, and now he sat with a worried look on his handsome face. The next day was the day of the wedding, and her mother hustled Jola off to bed early, despite her complaints, but Jola could not sleep, the thought kept running through her mind, did Uni see her for who she was, or just as a female unicorn, it terrified her, she knew he loved her and she him, but was he marrying her for the right reasons? She tossed and turned for hours before she finally got to sleep, and her eyes were puffy when she woke, she had to spend an extra hour on make-up until she was happy with her face. She began to perk up when her bridesmaids arrives, in their deep red dresses, laughing and excited, and sending Uni away to the best man’s house, Jola dressed in her wedding clothes. With her friends complementing her she began to feel almost like laughing, and was amazed at the contrast between their deep red and her white. “It looked wonderful.” she thought amazed at her own colour co-ordination. Her mother had taken the car to pick up the flowers and make her bouquet, and they sat and listened to Brandy until it was time to go to the church. When the limo her father had hired arrived the bridesmaids ran quickly out the door, Jola grabbed the CD from the player and ran after them, quickly catching up as she was the only one wearing gym shoes and could move much faster than the others in high heels, and after a few seconds they were at last on their way to the church. In front of the church her father was waiting for her and suddenly all her fears from last night came flooding back and she held her father’s offered arm as tightly as she could. He just smiled at her and winked, and together they walked through the doors into the church, and the Bridal March started to play. The best man, who had once been the drug dealer who had killed the last wolf on the day she had Kasandra, rushed up to get the CD from her, and she continued down the aisle with her father. She could see Uni, the best man and her bridesmaids standing near the altar, and they looked so far away as she walked slowly down the aisle with her father, when they finally reached the front of the rows of pews her mother handed her Kasandra’s hand, and she continued the last few feet with her daughter by her side. The wedding march had just finished as her father handed her over to Uni, who, she was surprised to see, had a serious look on his face, and just as the priest was to start speaking he put up his hand for silence, nodded to his best man, who slipped a CD into the player (Brandy – Have You Ever). and crossed his arms to wait. Uni looked deeply into her eyes and started to speak in his quiet voice, the priest quickly nudged the microphone closer, :Jola, from the very first day you stepped into my fantasy world, I fell in love with you, even though I could only see your beauty as I see it now, and I knew in that instant that I never wanted to lose you. I followed you to your world of reality and here you gave me your love, and shared with me your parents, the only parents I have ever known, later you shared our lovely daughter with me. You have saved my life, stood beside me as you do now, given me your heart, without ever really knowing if I ever saw you as you truly are. I am sorry I have never made that clear to you, and on this special day, I want to do just that. I love you Jola. With that he kissed her softly, and with so much love, that she started to cry, in relief and with just pure love for him. Jola opened her mouth as if to speak, but seeing two tears rolling down his cheeks, she closed it again, and in tears herself, just fell into his arms and held him tightly. The priest waited a few minutes for then to regain their composure, and then nodded to the best man, who quickly slid Jola’ CD into the player, and Brandy – Because I Love Him started to play. The priest spoke for a short while until he reached the part that Jola had been waiting her whole life to hear, “Do you Uni take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?” and Uni, still looking deeply into her eyes said “I do!” Then he turned to Jola and asked “Jola, do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?” and she took Uni’s hand in her own and said “I do.” The priest said, “Please exchange rings.” first Uni slipped a beautiful ring on her finger, white gold with a beautiful unicorn design on it, and she slid one on his, gold. They signed the papers and then they were married at last. As they left the church she felt Uni’s arm around her shoulder and Kasandra’s gripping her hand tightly, this was the most perfect day she had ever imagined, and her smile said exactly the same thing. This story is dedicated to Jola, not only is she my little unicorn, but these are her wedding plans, her dream for her own wedding
