Good Morning. I have this sneaky suspicion that we Americans are not always the butt of some jokes. Take for instance this pore fellow in Britain. In November, Britain's new weather-themed Cool Cash lottery game was canceled after one day because too many players failed to understand the rules. Each card had a visible temperature and a temperature to be scratched off, and the purchaser would win if the scratched-off temperature was "lower" than the visible one. Officials said they had received "dozens" of complaints from players who could not understand why, for example, minus-5 is not a lower temperature than minus-6. [Manchester Evening News, 11-3-07] Recurring Themes Once again, someone found a suspected live explosive on his property, put it in his car, and took it to the local police station (this time, a hand grenade, in Devon, England, in November). (For the record, emergency personnel would rather be told about an explosive than have it brought into their building.) [Agence France-Presse, 11-5-07] And well we have to add Grand Rapids Michigan to this field more so Jenison. Apparently in Yellow Stone National Park, Wyoming a Huge Volcanic eruption occurred nearly 640,000 years ago and scientist’s believe that the Caldera left by this eruption is well over due to erupt again and be substantially disastrous to those near and around that area. A young lady from Grand Rapids, Michigan area thought she had a great Idea. Her idea was to station dogs around Yellow Stone and the suspected caldera region to have the dogs alert officials of the eruption. Well… Timmy Lassie might have alerted you to danger but, sticking 2 dozen Lassie like dog’s out around the Yellowstone caldera region is just about asking for 2 dozen over cooked hotdogs… sure they may bark until the cows come home and yes someone would have to monitor them, but why can’t the seismic instruments we pay billions on yearly for this type of information also do the job?
Oh well perhaps this woman’s idea would work…I do not know. I just think a barking dog more times then not is a strain on one’s last nerve…
