just for today, or  longer, it's "What's Your Movie". With all respect..to the Great Mose Allison. Hope he's not the great late. research isn't my strong suit, and I've been trying to be on vacation all day. But these movies keep playing in my head, and I'm not always sure what they're about.  so  i go check out another one. there's always someting at the multiplex . 

i'm going back in time for my next project. north beach san fransico in the early 1960's. on the verge of becoming hippidom, but still some surviving beats walking around like poets.

here's one of mine. published in 1971

once in quiet nights of young....

long before afraid was ever

in safely tucked

and dumb to sorry

when morning's haze

played softly games

before ever lonely

suddenly came

once in quiet nights of young

when travel's name was yet to know

and pain was still too young to talk

played we freely

in the snow

in safely tucked

when nights were warm

and madness still unborn.

then came raging nights of death...

when swirling skies unmade the room

when love was not and touch was rape

and wishes all began with 'not'

Once and then no longer are.

this each and only now

this night of quiet 'if'

and hope for morning's kiss
