A chilled winter wind
Fresh fallen blanket of snow
Tree boughs hanging heavy
On my journey I now go
Single footprints with each step
Trail along with me from behind
Silence around as nature sleeps
Peaceful thoughts fill my mind
A squirrel plays across a branch
Chasing its snow to the ground
It lands on the new blanket
I hear not a single sound
A running brook with banks of white
Water flowing under ice so blue
I stop for a minute and just look
Soaking into my memories, all I view
A trail I have made as I walked
Across this blanket of white this day
My prints will be the only sign
That a person has passed this way
One last look I now take
Before I return to where I came from
Nothing disturbed of nature’s beauty
Except the prints that no lead me home
