I worry about the ozone layer and acid rain
I worry about the destruction
of the Amazon rain forest
about the possibility of a nuclear disaster
and the depletion of our fossil fuels
I worry about the endangered species
and the pollution of our oceans
about overpopulation and gang violence
about the famine in Africa
a war in the Middle East
the rise in teenage pregnancies
the hospital crisis, AIDS
the federal deficit
the abused children
the peace negotiations
I worry and feel so helpless
about our earth
our country, our streets
So in the meantime
I'll call my mother more often
be there for my family
look in on my neighbor
take care of a friend
support worthwhile causes
be honest and outspoken
In the meantime
what I can do is
start improving the world
in my own backyard
