It's a pity Jeff Shaara doesn't write school textbooks; the historical novels he does write regarding Americans at war give you the feeling you're really there when the Declaration of Independence is signed, when you hear the opening shots at Fort Sumter, etc. And while the great conflicts from Revolutionary times to World War II (as far as I know, he's written books set during the American Revolution, the Mexican War, the Civil War, World War I, and World II) are happening, they don't take up the lion's share of the book . . . Homemade Macaroni & Cheese
3 tbsp. butter 1/4 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. dry mustard 1/4 tsp. pepper 2 1/2 c. milk 2 c. Cheddar cheese, grated 1/2 lb. Velveeta cheese 1 c. Mozzarella cheese 1 (16 oz.) box elbow macaroni In large saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Stir in flour, salt, mustard and pepper until smooth; take off heat. Little by little, stir in milk until smooth. Stir constantly for 10 minutes on heat until thick; take off heat. Stir in 1 1/2 cups Cheddar cheese, Velveeta cheese and Mozzarella cheese until melted. Put cooked macaroni in a greased casserole dish, pour cheese mixture over and mix well. Sprinkle paprika and leftover Cheddar cheese on top. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes. Recipe can be halved.

3 Weeks Vacation Here I Come

Todays Stuff
Wooohoooo I went in and filled out all my paperwork today and got everything set for Tuesday start date :) How about I didnt even notice this but the day I start work is September 11th. you feel like a...? I don't know. It's not joy, that's for sure. I would have to say that today was a "the grass is greener" day. I'm all antsy and I don't know why. Its Howling
I hate Illinois weather. Today its a high of like 70, with wind blowing like mad. I sit at my desk here at work, cuz i can't leave yet and have nothing else to do, and you can hear it howling. Ingredients Chicken filling: 26 ounces skinned, boneless chicken breasts 5 Tbs. soy sauce 2 Tbs. hoisin sauce 2 Tbs. honey 1 Tbs. sugar 4 cloves garlic, minced 2 stalks lemongrass, minced 1/2 C. soybean oil 1 Tbs. sesame seed oil Fresh black pepper Wrapping mixture: 10 large rice paper wrappers 1 package rice noodles, soaked in warm water until softened and drained 1 head romaine lettuce, cut into 3/4-inch lengths 1 cucumber, peeled, seeded and cut into thin strips 1/2 C. pickled daikon, chopped 3 carrots, peeled and sliced thinly 2 C. bean sprouts 1 bunch basil, cleaned and leaves picked 1 bunch mint , cleaned and leaves picked 1/2 bunch parsley, cleaned and leaves picked Directions Dipping Sauce, recipe follows. Bar-b-que Sauce
2 c Onion, chopped 1/2 cup Wine vinegar 1/2 cup Bell pepper, chopped 4 ts Salt 1/2 cup Olive oil 1/4 tablespoon Louisiana hot sauce 4 cloves Garlic, chopped 1 1/2 cup Dry red wine 2 cup Ketchup 1/2 teaspoon Celery seed 2 tablespoon Parsley, dried 1 cup Steak sauce 2 tb Lemon juice Saute onions and bell pepper in olive oil. Add garlic, wine and the rest of the ingredients. Bring to a boil. Cover, then cook over a low fire for at least 2 hours. Use on finished barbecue, NOT AS A BASTING SAUCE.

I was on one of my hardedt road missions the first time I heard this song. I had just returned from leave and was pretty fucked in the head to begin with. Luckily they knew this and sent my buddy Danny as my driver. This was the first all pagan wrecker crew they had sent out. We were stuck in Camp Beuring, Kuwait for 13 days waiting for the unit we were hauling north. The orders came in that we were going to Ramadi, Iraq. One of the most dangerous areas at the time.
